PLEASE NOTE: This lot was sold in an online benefit auction where all proceeds went to the Whyte Museum in Banff, Alberta and there was no Buyer's Premium.; Impressionist Susan Elkins paints still life, landscapes and portraits that reflect her appreciation for the traditional methods of the past. It was at The Cape School of Art in Provincetown, Massachusetts, where she began to develop her sense of colour and realize that it is light and atmosphere that create the colour key in nature which constitute an important element in a painting. Elkins has been developing her understanding of colour to depict the beauty that she sees. Nature's infinite colour schemes are carefully captured to recreate differing light conditions observed by her discerning eye. For the past 20 years she has lived and worked with the natural light of Western Canada.
